Researchers help Pentagon build mind-controlled prosthetics reliable enough to last a lifetime. Badrinath "Badri" Roysam, chair of University of Houston's department of electrical and computer engineering, is leading a multi-institution team effort to identify the combination of factors that cause neural implants to fail. Neural implants can fail within six to eight weeks due to changes in the surround tissue. Roysam's team is seeking to eliminate this problem, creating neural implants that can last for a lifetime.
